Best Tips to Help you Recover Lost Data On Your Hard Drive 2017 | SotecNaija

Let's dispense with the I-told-you-sos. If you find yourself facing a hard drive data recovery job, then you have probably forgotten the cardinal rule of computing: All hard drives eventually fail. And you didn't back up your data, did you? We've been there—hey, everybody has to learn this lesson once. Now what?
Panic!
Just kidding. Actually, the first thing to do is determine if it really is a hard-drive failure you're confronting, and not one of the countless other equipment glitches that can cause a boot failure. If you have access to another computer, remove the failed hard drive from your sick PC, and hook it up as a secondary drive to the alternate computer. The easiest way to do this is through a USB universal drive adapter—it costs about $30 and is a good device to have around for all sorts of hard-drive diagnostics.
On a Mac, the process is a bit simpler. Use a FireWire cable to hook your nonworking Mac to a working Mac, then, "target boot" the nonworking machine by holding down the T key as you power it on. With either method, it's possible that your failed hard drive will show up on your healthy computer and reveal its files, in which case your hard drive is probably fine, but your operating system needs to be reinstalled. (Don't forget to offload your files before you do that.)

An attempt to salvage your data can cost anywhere from a hundred dollars to several thousand

If your files don't show up on the secondary computer, then you are at one of those pivotal moments in life when you find out how much your hard work and treasured memories are really worth to you. Depending on how your drive is damaged, an attempt to salvage your data can cost anywhere from a hundred dollars to several thousand. What's more, the process can take days—and there is no guarantee that the money and time you invest will produce any results whatsoever.
Now that we've gone through the depressing task of properly setting your expectations, here's the good news: Very often, the data on failed drives is recoverable. In fact, it's surprising how resilient that information can be—just ask any corporate embezzler who thought he had deleted all the evidence from his PC, only to have it show up later in court. The comparison is apt, since the very same computer forensic tools that uncover digital misdeeds are the ones that can find your treasured family photos.
There are two ways that drives crash: Logical failure and mechanical failure. In a logical failure, the drive's components are physically undamaged, but because of either accidental formatting or a corrupt file system, the drive is not able to find and navigate its own data. However, unless it has been overwritten, that data still exists on your drive.

There are two ways that drives crash: Logical failure and mechanical failure

A mechanical failure means that your drive has broken parts that are preventing it from working—busted drives often make a telltale clicking sound as they futilely attempt to access their files. If you hear that, your data may still be there, but you're not getting it back without calling in the experts (see "Worst-Case Scenario," next page). And those experts make good money. Data recovery services from Kroll Ontrack, Seagate's i365 and Iomega charge between $500 and $2500 to attempt to salvage data from either logical or mechanical disasters, depending on the severity of the situation. But if you are just dealing with a logical failure, you can get your files back on your own for far less.
We recently attempted a data recovery from the crashed drive of a Popular Mechanics colleague whose 120 GB MacBook drive had spontaneously given up the ghost. We removed the drive from her laptop, then used our USB drive adapter to hook it up to a desktop computer for diagnosis. We didn't hear any sounds that indicated a truly dead drive, so our first step was to download the free demo diagnostic tool at Prosoft Engineering to check what might be salvageable. Many companies offer demos that will scan your drive and give you a pretty good idea of what's recoverable before you lay down money to buy their software.
Once the assessment indicated we'd get good results, we used Prosoft's Data Rescue II software ($99), which is tailored for the Mac OS and Mac-formatted drives. There are far more options for PC owners, including Prosoft's Data Rescue PC ($99), as well as Ontrack EasyRecovery DataRecovery ($199) and RecoverMyFiles ($60) from GetData.

Most of these products work in a similar way. Install the software, select the defective drive as your source and choose a destination folder to receive the data. (Make sure your recovery drive has enough space for the contents of your failed drive.) Then be prepared to wait, and wait. A full scan and recovery of our 120 GB drive took four days, and a larger drive could take longer.

Recovering a hard drive is a bit like getting back a stolen car

Recovering a hard drive is a bit like getting back a stolen car—you'll be happy to have your files back, but the results could be messy. No data recovery program will return your files to you in exactly the condition you originally kept them. These programs are designed to essentially do a data dump from your problem drive to a new drive. Files will be organized by type (JPEG images will be in one folder, Word documents in some other folder, MPEG movies in another) and your songs and photos will be mixed with random sound and image files from your computer's system folder.
Additionally, the names of all your files will have been changed to various alphanumeric sequences, such as IMG1039.jpg or MOV2010.mov. So be prepared to settle in for a long weekend of sifting through and renaming your files. Oh, and while you're at it, now's a good time to buy that backup drive.

Drive Disasters: Worst-Case Scenario

What if your hard drive is suffering from something a bit worse than your everyday hard-drive crash? How much damage can your data take before it's gone forever? We wanted to find out what could be salvaged from a computer that had been through a natural disaster, so we simulated a really bad one. We decided upon an earthquake/flood doomsday scenario. First, we took two laptop drives, loaded them with test movie and music files, then beat the heck out of them until we heard the signature clicking of mechanical hard-drive failure. Then we submerged one of the drives in custom- made storm-surge floodwaters (salt water, construction debris, oil) and let it soak for four days.

We sent both hard drives to Kroll Ontrack Data Recovery, which sells data-rescue services to both corporate clients and consumers. Ontrack's Jeff Pederson analyzed the drives in the company's clean room and found that the read/write heads in our dry drive were bent from our abuse and that we had scratched the platters. Our flooded drive was wet, but the platters were undamaged. Pederson replaced the heads and performed a recovery.
The results? Pederson was able to save 99 percent of the data from the dry drive and 100 percent from the flooded drive. Had we been paying customers, the service would have cost us $1200 each.

Simple Steps To Track Your Lost Android Phone In 5 Minutes

Actually, if you use Android indeed, your phone is already per-configured with these tracker.

Here is what’s required:

1. Your phone must be connected to internet: if you are the type who likes putting off your data connection every time you need to upgrade today!

2. Your device must be connected with Gmail: I am aware that Android can't function to it full capacity if your Gmail is not connected so you've probably done this step if you are reading this.

Activating the Tracker: Turn this on permanently>> ‘Android Device Manager (ADM)’ or Google Find My Device in some devices and grant it access to look-up your location.

This is how to do that:

- Go to Settings>>Security>>Device Administration

Enable ‘Android Device Manager’ to perform all the tasks listed for it.

With this technology, you can:

- Track your phone
- Let it ring and
- Wipe the data
- Even call it…

…directly from a computer.

Here is how to do the above:

First Method:

- If you have the ADM configured on your phone and it is missing all you have to do is to find a computer, sign into Gmail and then go to Google.com, type 'where is my phone' without the quote.

- Click the first link on the search results or visit this link (https://myaccount.google.com/intro/find-your-phone) on the same browser and then selected your phone.

- At this stage you can then ring your phone or lock it or call it or locate it or Wipe it just by clicking on any of the options:

Note: even if your phone is on silence, as long as it internet access is enabled, it will RING out LOUD and clear!

Second Method:

Get another person's phone and install "Android Device Manager App" from Google playstore, sign into the app with your Gmail Account, the same account you signed in on your phone and then click on ‘find my device’.

- Actually, without clicking anything it should display your device’ current location and other options as listed above.

That's how to put a secrete tracker on your Android device be it a phone or a tablet.

If your phone is stolen just pray that the thief does not turn off the Internet connection because without it on your phone, you may not be able to track it or communicate with it using any of the above listed methods.

The best thing you can do is to always leave the internet access enabled and use password on your phone.

Third Method:

What if the thief turns off the phone completely? Or the phone goes off where you kept it?

All you have to do is to take precaution:

Here is how:

Turn on Location History on your device.

If you do this, Google will save the last known location of your device on your account and with it you will be able to have an idea of where your phone is last seen.

Here is how to turn on Location History on your Android Device:

First off all, Ensure location is permanently turned on: Swipe down the menu from the top of your device and tap the location icon to turn it on or off (That icon that looks like a rain drop).

Checking Location History:

Step 1: Log on to Google maps from any computer or phone using web browser. Use this link: www.Google.com/maps

Step 2: Sign in with your Gmail account, the one you signed in with on your device.

Step 3: Click the Menu on the top left side of the map (The three small lines).

Step 4: Click ‘Your timeline’.

Step 5: Choose the day you would like to see, if I where you I would choose Today. You can as well choose any other day you would like to see.

Note: you can delete this timeline location history at will. Just click the Bin Icon beneath the Map and it will delete it forever.

With all the methods listed above you should be able to track your Android Device for free and know the precise location or at most you will know the last known location.

Remember that to use this, location and internet connection needs to always be active on your device.

Meanwhile, there are other ways by which a device could be tracked without internet connection but it will require purchase of relevant hardware; maybe one of this days I will write about it but till then…

Use this tool today and share the information with loved ones.

Today’s course is on phones input device (Their problems) “how to recover a Smartphone that got damaged by water”.
Do you know that a phone that fall’s into water can still work?
After my last edition of smartphone problems, i came up with this. Yes basically, no man is above mistake and off course no man knows what shall happen next. Going out with your phone on a good weather will never bring to your mind that there will be a climatic change. Suddenly, rain began and you were far away from shelter so you got socked up and it critically reaches your phone, do you know that every bit of water that enters into the phone might probably reach the inside of this device? Thus causing one or two damages in this phone board (where IC’s and other functionary devices are planted). Damages may not really be physical as you may think, but it’s destructive to still let them remain therein. And probably malfunctioning stats. But don’t worry, you can handle it with this article.

Causes
This is derived from the fact that the destructive to the cells of a mobile phone; and thus has caused damages to it IC (integrated circuit).
Solution(s)
When such thing happens, quickly pick up the set out of the watery environment, open it, remove the cells battery and the SIMCARD immediately. Clean the 2 components very well with dry clothes and dry them in the sun until the water dries off. Now they are so different ways you can recover this phone that fell into water back, which are included here;
Formula 1:   When you remove the set out of the water, with any good support stand the handset unity upright under a fan or a blowing dry air.
Formula 2:  Step 1; Loose the panel with precision crew driver
Step 2; Gently brush the contact with a small quantity of methylated spirit.
Step 3; Then dry it under the hot sun very well for about 30 minutes or you use a hot air blower for drying it.
Note:  Make sure to use a tooth brush with a solution of spirit to clean the phone contact unit. Fix back the phone and power on. It will come back to normal.

HOW TO USE PHONE WITH ONE SIM CARD TO ACCESS CALLS ON FOUR TO FIVE SIM’s
Previously, I talked about some Major faults in Smartphone’s, which I took time to elaborate for easy understanding, I hope you enjoyed my previous course?  All I saw last time was never what I expected from you; you just visited and left without showing a sign that you enjoyed or disliked it. There is one thing about being focused, and that is asking questions. Remember I said I accept questions on where you don’t understand so as not to get involved in errors and mistakes that may cost you to correct. And also remember I said “its my profession, its what I love doing, which became part of me where ever i go, and I know what it takes to learn it (making too much mistakes that may cost you).  Very well then, if you haven’t seen read it, click here to read..

Today’s Course
In today’s course, I will be giving you a free tutorial on how to use one phone with one SIM CARD to access calls of your different lines (simcards).   This another opportunity on how to access the communication technology optimally. With just “one” SIMCARD in your handset, you can receive calls to your different lines (of different networks such as MTN, GLO, Mobile, Mtel. Etc.). For those with different lines (irrespective of the network), you use one network to receive calls to the other networks.

See How It Works
Insert the SIMCARD of the network you wish to keep at home in your handset and swith on the phone.
Press the following buttons on your phone: **62* (the phone number you want to permanently retain in your phone) # then OK/Yes/Send.
Your phone will display Active for: Asynchronous data, services inactive for all services or completed.
Remove the SIMCARD you wish to keep at home from the phone.
Insert the SIMCARD you want to travel along with in the phone and switch on your handset
Call any of the lines, it will automatically ring in the same phone you are holding in your hand.

How To Cancel It
Put the SIMCARD(’s) you dropped at home in the phone an switch on the handset.

Technology: Major faults in smartphone's and their solution: To repair them

Major faults in smartphone's and their solutions...

                                                      Today's post
Both Electrical, Electronic and mechanical products develop some faults or show implied problems from time to time. Some of these problems are minor that you can handle and fix it on your own ay helping hand thereby saving yourself bundle’s of dollars.
      There is a way you can know if the component inside your phone is bad. For instance;
*      If you are making a call and at the other end the receiver cannot hear you; the fault is technically the result of the mouth piece. The mouth piece like a sensor that carries your voice to the other side. But if it has been damaged, no one can hear you. But if the person at the other end can hear you but you can’t hear him, then of course the problem is traceably from the ear piece also called speaker. The speaker is therefore not in good condition and needs to be replaced. The speaker is located at the top most part of the phone.
NOTE:  The Speaker can’t be repaired once it is damaged, it can only be replaced with a new one.
*      Also, if your phone does not display on the screen; the fault has to do with the screen or the flex. The flex takes the image form engine to the screen. Although it is still possible that you can make calls but you won’t be able to see any image or number you dial.

*      At most times, if your phone stop charging, when you plug it into the electrical socket, there are 3 major reasons for that, and these could be;
It could be that the charger is bad or
It could also be that the charging port is faulty or
  The charging IC is dead.

*      When the phone suddenly starts to lost network signal and it’s not from the service provider, then you should know that it is the network IC that has problem. The network IC is the component that attracts the signal. For instance if you are not able to have net work in your phone, but some other people has it, then it simply means that the network IC is bad or the antenna is damaged out of order and needs replacement or the wire that is connected to the antenna is broken and needs to be soldered completely, but if the network IC or antenna isn’t faulty, then you can make use of a software repairing code *0000# click on OK/SEND. It requires you to wait for few seconds and full network service will be restored. You can also search for network directly from your phone by going to setting – phone setting – Network selection, Automatic or Manual then press OK key and full service will be restored...
