“It was at Jacinta’s wedding ceremony ooo.”

“I met him while I was leaving the ceremony; he was asking me about life here in the country having just returned from overseas when our discussions turned into toasting.”

“And you just gave in?”

“Of course naah, I’m not growing any younger.”

“But you know about I and Peter already now?”

“No, you’ve never told me about that. I’ve been meaning to ask you but I have been waiting for the right time.”

“This is the right time abi? Let me tell you something.”

“Carry on dear.”

“Raymond and I met while we were serving. After being to the same camp, we were posted to the same secondary school to work. Raymond was just a perfect guy. To tell you the truth, I had a crush on him and I toasted him.”

“And he also gave in abi?”

“He had no other option.” I said and we both laughed out loud.

“Raymond is just a rare breed; a perfect guy. He’s always about his family; about his job; about his appointment; about…”

“…about his wife.” Busayo completed my statement.

The party went well, right into the night. I was enjoying the party when Odin came, calling me.

“Mummy, mummy, I want to go home.” His eyes were sleepy.

“So how is peter?” I asked.

“I hope you were not playing with my husband?”

As I turned, going to my room and channeling the Dstv to Telemundo, I rushed to my room to dress up. It’s been long I wore any of my innumerable jean trousers. I decided to go so youngish by wearing a jean trouser with a white top. When I came to the sitting room, Busayo blurted: “What is this, are you going on a date?”

“Date ke, I need to relax in something simple once in a while since I’m not with a stranger.”

“That’s okay but I’m jealous ooh. Are you the one getting married or I am?”

“Better mellow your mind and let’s go shopping.” I burst with excitement, laughing out loud as I switched off the Dstv and telly respectively.

After shopping, I sighted Mr. Kayode entering his car as we just got out of the shopping mall.

“Kayode.” I called but he didn’t hear me. “Kayode, Kayode, Kayode.” I shouted and he turned, facing me.

“Hi Mrs. Raymond.” He was polite but not like the other day when he was calling me ‘ma’am’ like I was an elderly woman.

“Hi Kayode.” I responded gently and gingerly as Busayo pinched me, asking who he was. “He’s my husband’s employee.” I told her.

“I can see your hands are full, that’s evidence of extravagant shopping.” He said, smiling.

“My friend is about to wed and we came buying her wedding accessories.”

“I can see.” He said, saying hi to Busayo as she responded simply.

“What brought you here?” I was prying into his affairs.


“I actually stopped by to see my wife before I leave for the office. I’ll be working long hours today, so I came to let her know.”

It’s not as if I expected a man of his age to still be single but I had to admit, I was envious and disappointed in finding out that some lucky woman out there was getting all of him.

“That’s good. You are a good husband.”

“Ok, I have to be on my way now.”

“That’s alright, bye!” I said as I turned, walking to Busayo’s car, shaking my butt as his eyes were all on me.

“What did you just do? You know you’re a married woman?” Tonia said, making a fuss.

“Don’t worry, he’s just one of those diligent employees of my husband.”

“But you saw how you shook your behind and he was staring at you like his girl friend.”

“Oh, he was staring at me, don’t mind that man joor. Let’s get going.” I turned around to see if he was still there with a huge smile on my face.

All he was concerned about was his work and work and work. He rarely touched me and I’ve been aching for him. I wanted us to go back to the wedding night where he promised me more years of endless pleasure. I wanted us to be closer than we are now. I wanted us to be best friends and lifetime lovers not just one bossy husband and rich man who hardly spends time with his family.


Entering Odin’s room to check in on him, I saw him already sleeping, his notebook on the table beside the bed. I looked into the notebook and saw his homework already done. Seeing that his additions and subtractions were correct, I switched off the light as I went out of his room. My husband was still in his study looking for the file. Usually, my husband would go in and check on Odin like I just did but he has left the role of mother and father all up to me.

“Honey, I’m tired and need to go to bed now.”

“That’s fine.” He said, “I will join you when I’m done with my preparations for tomorrow.”

On bed, I pondered as I wondered why and how I allowed someone else touched me, besides, my husband’s employee. It was the last thing I had ever dreamt of but it happened. Though I enjoyed it, I just discovered that it was unfaithful of me to give in to another man when Raymond provides me with nearly everything I’ve ever wanted in life. He was the owner of the company but he worked himself to death as if the company would crumble when he stops working. As the two of them were leaving, I kissed my husband as I watched his handsome face and luscious lips. He had all it takes to lure a woman of his choice but his commitment to duty makes him a lover of work than anything else in the world.

As his car pulled out from the drive way, I became lonely again, not that his presence filled up the house in the first place anyways.

Jelani Maraj, the brother of rapper Nicki Minaj, has been found guilty of predatory sexual assault.
Maraj, 38, was on trial for raping an 11-year-old girl on multiple occasions at his Long Island home. He was charged with the crime in 2015 and found guilty at Nassau County court, New York, this week. Maraj faces the potential of 25 years to life in prison.

Neither Maraj nor his sister, whose birth name is Onika Tanya Maraj, testified in the trial. The child, now 14, and her younger brother testified. The defence lawyer claimed the allegations were fabricated by the child’s mother in order to extort $25m (£19m) from Nicki Minaj.
James R Ray III, a civil attorney who briefly represented the mother, testified that he did demand a $25m legal settlement from Jelani Maraj after he had been arrested, but said the girl’s mother was unaware of the demand.
“She was never involved as far as what we did,” Ray III testified. The woman later fired him as her attorney.
Maraj is set to be sentenced on 14 December. His lawyer has said he will appeal the judgment.

“You’re going to work on the air conditioners of the whole house, beginning with the sitting room, then our bedroom and my husband’s study.”

“That’s ok ma’am.”

“If you can’t finish the remaining parts of the house today, you may have to come back another day.”

“No problem ma’am.” I felt like slapping him for calling me ‘ma’am’ like he was addressing his mother but I felt he was only being as polite as possible.

“When you’re done for today, I’ll be in the backyard if you need me.” I smiled.

“That’s fine ma’am.” Addressing me ‘ma’am’ again, I was seriously getting pissed off but I decided to ignore his good manners.

Three hours later, while I was knitting my son’s cardigan, Mr. Kayode came.


“I’ve finished my work ma’am.”

“You mean you are done? You mean the whole house or what?”

“Yes ma’am. I’ve been on this job since the last fifteen years. It was no big deal checking all the fanning systems in the house.”

“That’s incredible!”

“I appreciate you ma’am.”

“Can I check them? Just to make sure they’re working well so I don’t need to call you back here again.” I didn’t want him to think I didn’t trust the work is done.

“Why not?” He agreed. Besides, he had no choice, I was his boss’ wife.

Moving from one part of the room to the next, I felt the cooling capacities of the fanning systems, as he called them. They started working so perfectly like they were newly bought systems.

“Thank you so much sir.” I was being polite to him. Besides, he’d been addressing me as ‘ma’am’ since he arrived.

“I’m always at you and your husband’s beck and call ma’am.”

Leading him out of my husband’s study, my feet hit the table just before the door and I fell down. I couldn’t hold the pain as I yelled as if he was the one that pushed me to the ground.

“Stop yelling ma’am.” He said as he held me up. I suddenly felt a tingling sensation all over my body and didn’t know when I started kissing him. He was about to make a comment when I held his lips. From my husband’s study, we ended up in the bedroom. Though the man was gangling, he treated so nicely and I felt like clinging to him forever. When he was leaving, it pained me that I may never see him again.

“The pleasure is all mine.” He didn’t add ‘ma’am’ this time around and that made me happy. We were now on the same page.

“Would you like to have lunch before you go?” I was trying as much as possible to keep this man here with me even for the few hours before my husband will be back from work.


“Maybe some other times dear, there are other official duties I have to attend to in the office.” His calling me dear made me even happier.

“That’s okay but you take care of yourself.”

“You too dear.” He winked at me.

As soon as he left, my husband called that he was coming home for lunch. It was unusual because he was such a workaholic who hardly spends time with me or our child.

“So to what do I owe this lunch?”

“I came actually to pick up an important file in preparation for my meeting with members of the company’s board of trustees this evening.”

“But when will all this stop?” I grumbled, hovering over him as he looked for the documents he came for.

“What? Where are you heading to?”


“Honey, it’s been like months since you had lunch with me na.”

“I see. What about all the money, properties and security I’ve provided for you and your son? Do you think if I spend my time at home all the time, you would be driving that car?”

“Is it security and wealth that make a home?” Haba, this man though that he could just leave a whole lot of me at home every morning before he left for work and that would somehow satisfy me? I am a woman, not a piece of metal. I feel, and I have cravings that I realized not only him could satisfy today.

“See, you are delaying me ooh. Just let me get what I came here for okay?” He kissed my cheeks as he grabbed a hold of the documents and then he left again. This has been the routine I have been trying to get used to ever since we had our first child.

House GOP tax plan filled with tough tradeoffs | Sotechnaija

The tax overhaul is Republicans’ top priority ahead of next year’s elections, and lawmakers are desperate for a victory after the Obamacare repeal failed.

House Republicans unveiled plans Thursday for a sweeping overhaul of the tax system calling for fundamental changes in business and individual taxes, including big cuts in rates and new breaks for families.
It also includes provisions sure to stoke controversy and fierce lobbying, including new limits on the popular mortgage interest deduction. People could only deduct interest on the first $500,000 of loans for newly purchased homes, down from the current $1 million, and lawmakers would eliminate the break for second homes. The bill would also make it harder for people to sell their homes without paying taxes on any capital gains.

And there would be sharply lower limits on a long-standing break for state and local taxes.
While big companies would get a significantly lower 20 percent corporate rate, down from 35 percent, they would face new limits on their ability to deduct interest on their loans, a new global minimum tax on their overseas earnings, and new taxes on U.S. companies heading abroad.
Republicans dropped a contentious plan to curb tax benefits for 401(k) retirement plans, which had GOP lawmakers cheering House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady at a closed door briefing on the plan.
The unveiling of the 429-page bill — and a summary that runs 82 pages — kicks off what is sure to be a grueling slog to get legislation to President Donald Trump by the end of the year.
Exactly who would lose in the proposal — dubbed the "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" — has been a closely guarded secret, and many lawmakers will surely be surprised at the scope of changes needed to make the numbers behind the plan work.
Several influential business groups slammed the proposal.
The National Federation of Independent Business announced its opposition, citing restrictions lawmakers included on which small businesses can claim their lower tax rate on unincorporated "pass-through" firms. The issue has been one of the most difficult for lawmakers to work out, and could prove to be one of the most contentious going forward.
Though lawmakers would reduce the rate on those businesses to 25 percent, there would be limits on which firms could take advantage, provisions designed to avoid gaming by wealthy individuals.


Under the proposal, pass-throughs would get the lower rate on 30 percent of their profits, with the remainder taxed at ordinary income tax rates, though there would be circumstances in which businesses could qualify for a bigger share being subject to the special rate. That means, though, that some pass- throughs would actually pay more than 25 percent under the plan.
“This bill leaves too many small businesses behind,” said Juanita Duggan, the group’s president. “We believe that tax reform should provide substantial relief to all small businesses.”
The National Association of Home Builders said the legislation “eviscerates” housing tax benefits, and “abandons middle class taxpayers.”
The National Association of Realtors meanwhile has already begun lobbying against the proposal, running online ads in tax writers’ districts. “Don’t let tax reform become a tax increase for middle-class homeowners,” the ad says.
Other business groups embraced the plan, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable.
“This bold tax reform bill is exactly what our nation needs to get our economy growing faster,” said Neil Bradley, a senior vice president at the Chamber of Commerce. Said Jamie Dimon, head of JP Morgan Chase & Co. and the Business Roundtable: "We support this tax reform effort because it is good for all Americans."
The plan is Republicans’ top priority ahead of next year’s elections, and lawmakers are desperate for a victory to take to voters after the failed campaign to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Republicans are hoping to move it quickly through the House, with committee action penciled in for next week. Lawmakers aim to forward it on to the Senate later this month. Senate Republicans are working on their own competing plan they aim to unveil next week. Lawmakers hope to land a compromise on Trump’s desk by the end of the year.
House leaders, who have written the plan in secret, have avoided identifying most of the breaks that would be quashed under the proposal in order to keep lobbyists at bay. But many Republicans had little inkling of what’s in the bill, and the strategy means leaders have not had much opportunity to build support among rank-and-file members for controversial proposals.
The bill is loaded with sure-to-be contentious ideas affecting broad swathes of the economy. It would delete a long-standing deduction for people with high medical bills — including those with chronic conditions. People would have to live longer in their homes, under the bill, to qualify for tax-free treatment of capital gains when they sell their houses.
It would also kill a long-standing breaks for adoptions, and for student loan interest costs. Private universities would face a new 1.4 percent tax on their investment earnings from their endowments. The Work Opportunity Credit, which encourages businesses to hire veterans, would be eliminated. So too would the New Markets Tax credit, which encourages investment in poor areas.
Tax benefits related to fringe benefits would be curtailed. It would also dump a long-standing break for casualty losses that allow people to deduct things lost in fires and storms, although it would continue to allow the provision for people hit by hurricanes — no doubt reflecting the influence of Brady, whose Houston-area district was hit by Hurricane Harvey.



Foreign companies operating in the United States would face higher taxes under the proposal, as would companies such as pharmaceutical firms that move overseas and want to sell goods back to the United States.
An official cost estimate of the legislation was not immediately available, though Brady said that would be released Thursday. He said the legislation met his party’s budget stipulating that they could not cut taxes by more than $1.5 trillion.

For individuals, the plan would reduce the number of tax brackets to four from the current seven, with the top rate remaining at 39.6 percent. Republicans would more than double the income threshold at which the top rate would kick in to $1 million for married couples. They would simultaneously raise taxes on the rich, though, by limiting their ability to take advantage of their lowest income tax bracket. The 35 percent bracket would begin at $260,000 for married couples, and the threshold for a 25 percent bracket would be $90,000 under the plan.
Republicans would also get rid of personal exemptions, which are designed to adjust tax burdens for family size. The plan would instead double the standard deduction while increasing both the size of the child tax credit to $1,600, from the current $1000, while increasing the income threshold at which it could be claimed. They would also create a new $300 credit for adult dependents as well as another $300 “family flexibility” credit.
The bill would ease the estate tax by doubling the threshold at which it would kick in before eventually repealing it.
Aside from the lower corporate tax rate, businesses would also get the ability to immediately write off their investment expenses for the next five years. They would get a one-time reduced rate of 12 percent on their overseas earnings on liquid assets and a 5 percent rate on illiquid assets like factories.
But they would face new limits on their ability to deduct interest payments on the money they borrow. They would also face a new 10 percent foreign minimum tax targeting companies that squirrel away money in offshore tax havens. Life insurance companies would lose a number of tax benefits, private activity bonds would be eliminated and tax-exempt bonds could no longer be used to help build professional sports stadiums.
